Commonly asked questions and our answers

Are you telling people not to vote?

No, we encourage that people vote in a way that aligns with their values and material needs. (Community independents not beholden to any political party are generally more appealing.) We are simply stating that regardless of who you vote for, the underlying issues behind the housing crisis, income inequality, ecological destruction and other issues affecting yours and others everyday lives will not be adequately addressed in the electoral process.

What about the Greens? They have policies which would drastically change the status quo.

While on many fronts the Greens aspire to make positive change to address major issues, they are structurally prohibited from receiving the parliamentary representation that reflects their share of the vote. Worryingly, they also seem to be sliding towards mediocrity by beginning to propose “more palatable” solutions to big problems like ….. Nationalised mining and arming pacific.

If not this way, then what way?

There is a wide range of political alternatives. There are ways of organising society that are egalitarian and just, non-exploitative and future proof. From the deserts of Syria, to the pre-colonisation of this continent, we can see a plethora of ways that enable societies that distribute resources fairly and exist sustainably within ecological limits.

We are not calling for one way, for one solution to this problem. We recognise that political solutions to this problem will come from the communities that need them. And communities around the world are doing this.

I just want my snag, and to be on my way, why should I bother with any of this?

It’s not just our future, world, reality. It’s yours too. Your families, your friends, your colleagues. And crisis and disaster are around the corner. The evidence is there, in the struggle to buy good food, afford your bills and keep a roof over your head whilst the top-end of town are getting richer and richer. Meanwhile extreme weather events disrupt and endanger communities and ecoystems more and more frequently and the government can’t keep up.

If you are reading this, you will not be one of the lucky ones. None of us will be.

We can either ensure a safe, housed, fed, liveable future for everyone, or we can eventually kill each other like dogs when the ones in the boardrooms and parliaments eventually give up.
