Campaign Against The System (CATS for short) aims to expose how Australian electoral politics and the system of power that it maintains offers no viable solutions to the crises we face. The system is happy to let the majority suffer whilst the rich get richer.
So-called “Australia” is a colonial project built on the genocide of First Peoples. The violence of this system is clear in the way western colonial values have forcibly replaced indigenous cultures and knowledge. This can be seen in the exploitation of land and people as resources from which to extract profit, as well as the removal of communities’ knowledge and autonomy to live and make decisions about issues that impact them. There can be no peace, no justice, no democracy on stolen land.
On macro issues such as ecological destruction, climate collapse, endless wars, housing, homelessness, inequality and the creation of refugees, Australia and it’s political systems has no answers and is inherently exploitative.
While those in power have known for a long time elections maintain their power and keep the rest of us out, this campaign aims to interrupt the facade that these elections can lead to substantial change. Instead we aim to burst the bubble of illusion that the campaign trail spreads, and have REAL conversations with you about how forms of more direct democracy would better serve us all.
